onThe Business Side of Energy Efficiency & Green Roofs – Addressing Common Misconceptions about Green Roofs”.

Have you ever considered designing a green roof during a roof replacement project? In today’s design and construction environment, a green roof can mean either a vegetative roof or a cool roof. In concept, green roofs area a great idea, however, there are many misconceptions about green roofs that should be taken into consideration prior to recommending or designing one. Building owners are often attracted to green roof options not only for the aesthetic value, but for the perceived energy savings. There is a common perception that green roofs are more energy efficient than traditional roofs.  It is true that green roofs can create energy savings. However, if energy savings is the goal, choosing the correct “green” roof for your building is required. This presentation will discuss both green and cool roofs, common misconceptions for each, and why it may actually make more sense to design and install a traditional roof instead of a green roof.
