Since 1998 Virginia Tech has turned to FEA for consulting services under five separate term contracts for roofing and facade consulting services at 20 different buildings, with most of the work performed at the main campus in Blacksburg, Virginia.
Roof Condition Assessment
FEA assessed the condition of roofs at seven buildings in the Upper Quad of the main campus. We developed a 10-year capital expenditure forecast based on existing conditions, roof type and age, existing slope and leak history.
Roof Design, Bidding Assistance, & Construction Consultation
For 20 buildings on the main campus, FEA prepared plans and specifications for roof system replacement. In addition, we performed construction phase services including full-time on-site construction monitoring during the roof replacement at 18 buildings. Designs were prepared in accordance with the guidelines established by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Repair details were also developed for the facade at Litton-Reaves Hall on the main campus. University personnel noted cracks in the building’s exterior wall panels. FEA investigated the cause of the cracks and determined that adequate bearing and reinforcement did not exist for the wall panels. Repairs were developed to temporarily pin the panels back to the building structural frame until funding was acquired so that a permanent repair could be completed.
