Maureen Roskoski presents ‘Going Green: How a Leased Office Space achieved Sustainable Operations without Certification’ at IFMA WWP
Often a single commercial office building is composed of multiple tenants, posing special complications for tenants within the building who are interested in implementing sustainability and energy efficiency practices. This presentation will focus on The CNA Corporation’s (CNA) pursuit of sustainability and energy efficiency and the challenges that come from being a tenant. We will show you how to develop a roadmap to sustainability through audits, incremental improvements, and employee involvement even when you don’t own the building. Energy consumption was a particular challenge for this facility due to a data center and unique challenges from a secure facility. During the presentation, specific measures resulting from the whole building energy audit and the data center energy assessment will be discussed bringing to light the types of energy conservation measures available and how to implement them in a leased office space. CNA’s Facility Manager will discuss the challenges she endured and successes she achieved and explain how she worked with her landlord to implement building wide changes. With the coupling of a facility manager’s and a consulting engineer’s perspectives, this presentation will outline potential pitfalls and solutions for sustainability and energy management within leased spaces and underscore the importance of the tenant/landlord relationship in commercial office buildings.
