James P. Whittaker Appointed to the National Research Council (NRC) Board on Infrastructure and the Constructed Environment (BICE)
July 21st, 2011 (Fairfax, VA) – Jim Whittaker, president of Facility Engineering Associates, has been appointed to the National Research Council (NRC) Board on Infrastructure and the Constructed Environment (BICE). The National Research Council was organized by the National Academy of Sciences in 1916 to associate the broad community of science and technology with the Academy’s purposes of furthering knowledge and advising the federal government. The National Academy of sciences is a private, nonprofit, self-perpetuating society of distinguished scholars engaged in scientific and engineering research, dedicated to the furtherance of science and technology and to their use for the general welfare of the nation. Functioning in accordance with general policies determined by the Academy, the Council has become the principal operating agency of both the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering in providing services to the government, the public, and the scientific and engineering communities.
The NRC’s Board on Infrastructure and the Constructed Environment (BICE) provides the government, and the public, advice on critical infrastructure needs and pressing built environment issues. Some recent research and publications from BICE include: Sustainable Critical Infrastructure Systems – A Framework for Meeting 21st Century Imperatives, Green schools, Green Healthcare Institutions – Health, Environment and Economics, Implementing Health-Protective Features and Practices in Buildings, Stewardship of Federal Facilities, Investments in Federal Facilities, and Core Competencies in Federal Facilities Asset Management Through 2020 – Transformational Strategies. Mr. Whittaker previously served on the BICE Committee for Core Competencies in Federal Facilities Asset Management.
