Kristin Moreno and Steve Bentz led a GBCI-Approved webinar “Introduction to Green Roofs” as part of USGBC’s free webinar series. The webinar discussed what a green roof is, including vegetative, traditional non-vegetative roofs, and cool roofs. It included examples of what makes these different types of roofs sustainable, and showed attendees how these affect the environment. The presentation covered not only types of roofs, but also helped attendees understand what kind of questions they need to ask when choosing between each type of roof presented. The presentation taught attendees how to evaluate if something is truly sustainable and worthwhile to pursue, as well as how to compare the benefits and disadvantages of both vegetative and non-vegetative roof systems. The presentation was based on FEA’s engineering experience coupled with FEA’s knowledge of sustainability and LEED to bring you an honest approach to learning what a green roof is.
