This webinar series was created through the coordination of GBCI Education Review staff, and USGBC membership and education staff, as another way for you as employees of USGBC member companies to have access to high quality green building education. This webinar was developed and will be delivered by Facility Engineering Associates, PC (FEA). FEA has been committed to the exchange and sharing of knowledge since very early on in its foundation back in 1992. As Thought Leaders in the Built Environment, FEA has been developing and delivering coursework for such organizations as the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) and George Mason University’s Office of Continuing Education. FEA has been providing GBCI-approved education for two years.
This webinar will discuss what a green roof is, including vegetative, traditional non-vegetative roofs, and cool roofs. It will include examples of what makes these different types of roofs sustainable, and show you how these affect the environment. The presentation will cover not only types of roofs, but also help you understand what kind of questions you need to ask yourself when choosing between each type of roof presented. It will teach you how to evaluate if something is truly sustainable and is worthwhile to pursue and how to compare the benefits and disadvantages of both vegetative and non-vegetative roof systems. The presentation will be based on FEA’s engineering experience coupled with FEA’s knowledge of sustainability and LEED to bring you an honest approach to learning what a green roof is.
