Facility Engineering Associates (FEA) is proud to announce the achievement of LEED Gold certification under the Existing Buildings rating system for the Austin Convention Center (ACC) in Austin, Texas. FEA worked with the Austin Convention Center for over two years to achieve this designation. This makes ACC one of only ten convention centers in the country to achieve LEED certification under the Existing Building rating system and one of only two to reach LEED Gold.
ACC is proud of their effort to not only achieve LEED Gold certification, but in their additional project achievements, including reducing indoor water usage by 32%, recycling 68% of their waste, decreasing their carbon footprint by 93%, and operating at an energy efficiency level 26% better than their peer-comparison baseline.
“We are tremendously proud of this achievement,” said Mark Tester, director of the Austin Convention Center Department. “Not only is the Austin Convention Center bringing economic benefits to the city of Austin, it is also a model of sustainability that will continue to set the standard in the industry. Credit certainly goes to the convention center staff’s dedication and commitment over the past four years to obtain the gold level, under the guidance of David Thomas, ACC Operations Manager, LEED-Accredited Professional and Certified Facility Manager.”
This accomplishment marks FEA’s seventh such project under the LEED for Existing Buildings rating system and we remain committed to partnering with facilities in their desire to achieve LEED certification, building sustainability, environmental awareness, and operational excellence.
